Since the initial report of 27 cases by Chelsea & Westminster in Londan there have been over 200 such cases of acute HCV in London & 25 in Brighton, and other cohorts have been described. So, the aim of this study is to characterize the mode of acute HCV transmission in HIV-infected individuals using linked molecular and clinical analysis. Based on the study results reported here more risky sexual behavior associated with concomitant drug use, group sex, and meeting partners on the internet appear to be the cause for this epidemic. So, one might conclude that the development of the internet as a place to meet partners is key in encouraging more risky sexual behavior.
