On Aug. 3, by unanimous consent, the Senate confirmed Dr. Mark Dybul as US Global AIDS Coordinator. The post carries the rank of ambassador. Last fall, President Bush appointed Dybul's predecessor, Randall Tobias, as head of the US Information Agency. Since then, Dybul has served as the AIDS office's acting coordinator and chief medical officer. Previously, Dybul was Assistant Director of Medical Affairs at the National Institute of Allergy & Infectious Diseases, where he also worked on AIDS-related issues.
