ViiV - Research study gathers real world insights from people living with HIV through mobile devices

  Hello:

We're writing to let you know about RISE, a research study now enrolling people living with HIV nationwide.

Thanks to decades of research and the participation of millions of people living with HIV, there has been significant improvement in care for HIV. HIV has become a chronic treatable condition, yet people living with HIV face challenges beyond controlling their viral load. Although most HIV research has focused on suppressing the virus, researchers are now becoming more focused on improving wellbeing and quality of life. ViiV Healthcare created the RISE research study to gain insights into the burden of HIV, and the quality of life of those who live with HIV.

By participating in the RISE research study, you can share your experience living with HIV, and help healthcare workers and policy makers address the issues affecting people living with HIV today. Participation in the RISE research study involves completing surveys taken through a secure mobile app. The surveys should take about 1-hour total to complete, and can be completed over a period of 7 days.

Participants will receive up to $35 in Amazon gift credit as compensation for their time. Participants will complete 6 required surveys about their HIV experience via a smartphone app to receive $30. Participants may complete an optional 7th survey to receive an additional $5. Once participants complete the study, they will be emailed an Amazon gift code for the full amount they have earned.

You may be a candidate for the RISE research study if you:

Are 21 years of age or older

Have been diagnosed as HIV-positive by a healthcare provider

Possess a smartphone that has internet access

Research study gathers real world insights from people living with HIV through mobile devices

ViiV Healthcare, Research Triangle Park, 17th January 2018
– A research study is seeking people who are living with HIV to help share their experience with the disease through a mobile app.

While progress has been made over the past few decades to better manage HIV infection, there is still a gap in understanding of its impact on quality of life for the nearly 1 million people living with HIV in the United States today.1 The Real World Insights from People Living with HIV Shared Through Electronic Devices (RISE) study, aims to help give health care workers and policy makers the information they need to address the issues affecting the daily lives of people living with HIV in the US. The knowledge gained through this study will be published and shared with health care professional and organisations, policymakers, advocacy groups and others so that they can better serve the needs of the HIV community.

"Medical science has made great strides in turning HIV into a manageable, chronic condition," said Konstantinos Lykopoulos, Senior Director, Health Outcomes, of ViiV Healthcare, the study's sponsor. "Viral load is a primary marker of clinical success. However, there are other factors that contribute to the quality of life for people living with HIV. We need to better understand how these factors affect different groups of people – for example, by age, gender, race, ethnicity, location in the US, time of diagnosis etc."

The study's fully digital methodology is a proof-in-concept for how other clinical and patient reported outcomes research studies could be conducted in the future. The RISE study is being conducted by mProve, a US-based mobile technology solutions provider for the clinical research industry.

Study participants will have the opportunity to share their experience and potentially help others living with HIV by raising awareness and understanding of the daily issues they face through a series of 7 validated surveys completed through a mobile app downloaded onto their electronic device. The surveys can be completed in a single sitting or over the course of 7 days. No study visits or treatments will be given as part of the study. The surveys will take approximately 1 hour to complete and participants will receive up to $35 in Amazon gift credit as compensation for their time after completing the surveys. All personal data collected through the study website and app (which are fully HIPAA compliant) will be kept strictly confidential.

Interested individuals can learn more about the study and take a brief questionnaire to find out if they are eligible to participate via the study website, at www.therisestudy.com\viiv
