I have been experiencing a dull pain in the liver area for over a year

Dear Dr. Chung,

I am 2 years post combo treatment (genotype 3a). My viral load was undetectable 4 months into treatment and still as of 9/01. I have been experiencing a dull pain in the liver area for over a year, under the breast, slightly to the right. It always occurs when I lay on my right side but is noticible at other times during the day. When I have complained of this before one gastroenterologist told me not to worry and seem to think I only need to be reassured. I don't think so however as I did drink since my biopsy in 99 and have frequent nightmares about this pain. I am unsure of what to do or what tests to ask my doctor about. Should I have another biopsy?

Much thanks,

If your liver tests are normal, I would say not. however, if you had advanced liver disease on your first biopsy, then a followup biopsy would not necessarily be unreasonable. you might also have a CT scan done to evaluate.
