Dear Dr. Chung,

Can you please tell me what to expect with this. This is all I know.

I have HCV. I have had it for at least 12 years. Through a support board I was able to gather some information to ask the doctor. Instead I talked to the nurse. This is what she told me.

Viral Load: HCV-RNA-PCR-600,000.00

Genotype: 1b

Subtype: 1 million

I have no clue what this means. I only know that I am going in for a biopsy next month, April 22, 2002.

The doctor did tell me that I would be on aggressive therapy for 6 months up to 18 months. He said that I would be doing the combo-therapy. I would have shots and pills. I also learned that the side effects aren't all that great.

So, if you could please help me that I sure would appreciate it.

Peace & Blessings

Your chances of a cure with your profile with 12 months of combination therapy are about 42%. thus, much of how you proceed depends on the result of the biopsy. if it's advanced, then you may want to stick with treatment longer. if it's not, then you may even not treat.
