If my viral load isn't active, then can you tell me why I still have alot of the same symptoms I was having while my viral load was active?

Dear Dr. Chung,

I have been trying to find an answer to this question for some time now. I hope you can answer it for me. I was diagnosed with Hep C back in 1996 and I have completed the alpha interferon treatment. My viral load has come back negative on the last 3 test over the last 2 years. If my viral load isn't active, then can you tell me why I still have alot of the same symptoms I was having while my viral load was active? I have been having rashes, lymph nodes hurt and general fatigue. My doctor doesn't seem to know how to help me. Can you please advise me on what may be going on?

You may wish to exclude the condition known as cryoglobulinemia, which can present with similar symptoms. however, these are usually associated with HCV and get better with successful treatment of same.
