What do I need to do from here on out?

Dear Dr. Chung,

I have been off treatment for 1 1/2 years now after doing 48 weeks of inteferon/ribivarin. I cleared the virus and at one year post tx it was still clear. What do I need to do from here on out? Are yearly blood tests sufficient? Will I ever need to have another liver biopsy? Also I have now been found to have an elevated protein that has my doctors concerned with an elevated b2 tumor marker. Have you ever seen this before in other hepatitis patients or do you think it is unrelated to the hep c? I am seeing a hemotologist at 6 month intervals due to the chance of progressing to multiple myeloma over the next few years. Thank you for any suggestions you may have.

Annual blood checks are quite reasonable - your risk for relapse is exceedingly low (<5%), good news. another biopsy may make sense if you had a lot of scarring with your pre-treatment biopsy to see how much resolution has occurred. we do not routinely check the b2 marker - you should consult with your hematologist on this one.
