It seems that your patient is indeed very sick. At this point therapy for
HCV, or HBV is not given because the possibility of response is very low ,and
the risks and adverse events very high. End stage patients can deteriorate
very rapidly during therapy ,and die from complications of the treatment.
The time frame this patient can survive, only God knows. Usually end stage
patients, die within a year of overt encephalopathy or jaundice. The causes of
death are hepatic failure,or gastrointestinal bleeding, or infection most of
the time.
The only alternative at this time, would be liver trasplant. Good luck.
