Ask Your Questions About-HCV! of our Hepatitis Experts:

Acute hepatitis C.

What is the status of interferon for treating acute hepatitis C? Has rebetron been used for this as well?

Thanks--P.

We have successfully used interferon monotherapy and rebetron for acute HCV for courses of about 6 months. In general, I think it reasonable if pts can tolerate it to try to use best available chronic therapy for acute, so we are now moving toward PEG + ribavirin treatment.

At the recent DDW Conference study results were reported on treating acute HCV. Here is the link to that report on the NATAP web site: Two Studies Find Benefit in Treating HCV During Acute Infection. RC
