New Safety Syringe in Fuzeon Convenience Kit

Terumo SurGuard2 safety syringes will replace the NMT syringes that have been provided in the FUZEON (enfuvirtide) Convenience Kit. Pharmacies will begin to receive FUZEON kits with the new safety syringes around November 1, 2006. Following is information about the new Terumo SurGuard2 safety syringes.
About the New Syringe
The Terumo SurGuard2 safety syringe features a protective green cover that snaps into place over the needle after use.
The items offered in the FUZEON Convenience Kit will remain the same, except for the syringes. The new kits will include the following syringes:
Reconstitution Syringes (60 ea)
Used for mixing Fuzeon with sterile water.
--Terumo SurGuard2 Safety Syringe
--3cc/mL
--23 Gauge, 1 inch (25mm) long
Injection Syringes (60 ea)
Used for self-injecting Fuzeon
--Terumo SurGuard2 Safety Syringe
--1cc/mL
--27 Gauge, 1/2 inch (13mm) long
Comparing the Old
With the New
--The major difference between the Terumo SurGuard2 safety syringes and the NMT syringes is the safety mechanism. The NMT syringes featured a self-retracting needle, while the Terumo SurGuard2 safety syringes features a simple needle "shield" that clasps onto the needle.
--The updated injection instructions, covering the Terumo SurGuard2, are virtually identical, except when describing the safety feature.
