As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment that also focuses on the welfare of employees, Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC) organised a free Hepatitis C screening programme for all staff members of ENOC and EPPCO, in partnership with Merck (known as MSD outside the United States and Canada), a leading research-driven healthcare company.

The screening programme is ongoing at the accommodation quarters of ENOC and EPPCO, with more than 4,000 employees to be screened over the month. Noaman Al Saleh, PR & CSR Manager, ENOC, said: "The Hepatitis C screening programme was undertaken as part of ENOC's commitment to the wellness of our employees, given that there is low awareness of the condition. We work with leading entities to promote the all-round welfare of our team members. The campaign helps in early identification of the disease, if any, and to take adequate measures immediately."

Referred to as the 'silent disease,' Hepatitis C can be effectively resolved through early treatment. According to MSD, early treatment during the acute phase of infection helps resolve 95 per cent of cases, while antiviral treatment in the chronic phase of infection is effective in 40 to 50 per cent of patients. Over the years, ENOC has taken strong initiatives to raise awareness on lifestyle diseases such as diabetes and has also supported breast cancer awareness campaigns.

ENOC has demonstrated its thought leadership in undertaking innovative CSR initiatives and has won Asia's top laurel for Best Corporate Social Responsibility Practices at the Asian Leadership Awards and The Bizz Award.
