ADHOC Aging-HIV Database Community Call Today Sept 3 2020

Today Sept. 3 2020 HIV community advocates gathered on a call to discuss the HIV & aging problem & the ADHOC database. It was discussed on this call how the dilemma facing older aging PLWH is not getting the attention it needs and deserves.

This database has for several years been collecting very important data in HIV+ aging older people for several years.

There was a vigorous discussion on the call & great interest expressed by community on this call that the ADHHIC study & database is very important, the data it's collecting about Aging older PLWH is very important, and unanimous agreement that the ADHOC study should be expanded. On this call the ADHOC study which is sponsored & funded by ViiV was explained in detail by the group leading ADHOC including Peter Mazonson MD of Mazonson & Santas & his team and by Frank Spinelli MD of ViiV. The ADHC study not only is collecting data on over 1000 PLWH >50 from various sites nationwide but they have implemented solutions/programs made available to PLWH in the study for improving their mental heath, loneliness etc & they showed data that these support solutions for improving mental health are in fact improving the mental health of older aging PLWH. ADHOC is: Ongoing online community & research study collecting relevant information from HIV+ older people. Here is a list of sites which are clinic site participating in ADHOC & a list of the validated patien-treported outcome measures (PROMs) collected https://www.natap.org/2019/HIV/030119_02.htm

ViiV ADHOC Aging/HIV Study Registry / Database
Aging with Dignity, Health, Optimism, & Community
An online community and research study for individuals over age 50 who are living with HIV

The population of people living with HIV (PLHIV) is aging. In the United States, 45% of this population is aged 50 or older and this percentage is climbing.1 Researchers have begun to study the many challenges facing older PLHIV including: loneliness, social isolation, financial insecurities, mental health issues, substance abuse, premature comorbidities, and frailty. These factors can impact age-related, patient-reported outcomes and quality of life. This poster addresses the association between loneliness and aging among PLHIV. Specifically, among individuals over 50 years of age with HIV, it explores whether increasing age is associated with greater, similar, or lower levels of loneliness.

To study the situation faced by older PLHIV, a new registry and online community, called Aging with Dignity, Health, Optimism and Community (ADHOC), was launched in October 2017. ADHOC is an observational disease registry that has three main goals: to research how HIV is impacting the aging process, to improve clinical care, and to create community by connecting patients to one another using a secure, online environment. The data collected through this registry is self-reported and includes information on sociodemographics, activities and interests, HIV diagnosis and status, health care use and satisfaction, antiretroviral therapy, comorbid medical conditions, health and well-being, substance use, and sexual practices.
