Dolutegravir and bictegravir-induced fat and adipocyte damage as a consequence of hypoxia-inducible factor 1 (HIF-1)-a activation.

Reversion of adipocyte dysfunction after HIF-1a pharmacological inhibition, Complications Workshop

The study looked at fat in SIV infected ART treated macaques and took fat from people with HIV and looked at the impact of INSTI exposure on gene expression, and was a followup of previous work reported by Jennifer Gorwood. The key finding was the importance of signaling through a molecule called HIF-1 alpha, which appears to be a novel mechanism of INSTI related fat gain and inhibiting it in vitro blocked the effects.
