Can you explain Stage C? Does it translate to Stage 3 in numbers?

Dear Dr. Chung,

I had a liver biopsy done in nov. of 2000. I have had chronic hepc for 7 years, with a viral load of 1,000,000. Although my doctor did explain the results of the biospy, I was never clear on the severity of the cirrhosis. Whenever someone tells me what stage their cirrhosis is the use the term Stage 1,2 3 etc. My biospy says: Chronic Hepatitis, with severe activity and bridging fibrosis, Stage C. Can you explain Stage C? Does it translate to Stage 3 in numbers?

Sincerely,
Susan

It isn't really well-studied. As you know, however, liver enzymes are notable for fluctuating in HCV... I would follow this over time. I suspect you will see lowering in the next several weeks.
